This original work in mixed media was requested by the United States Navy in 1997 for the commissioning of the newly constructed ship "USS Pearl Harbor." The Pearl Harbor is an LSD - dock landing ship, which supports amphibious operations including landings via Landing Craft Air Cushion and conventional landing craft and helicopters onto hostile shores.

The work depicts the ship slicing through the waters and coming through the tattered and seared flag. In the upper right, DUFFEY inserted the famous headline from the Los Angeles Times (12/07/41). In the upper right is a miniature of the tragic photo of the burning USS Missouri. A photo of the Pearl Harbor Memorial is featured in the lower left, and the seal of the new ship, USS Pearl Harbor, is on the bottom right.

The original rendering was sized 18 " by 24" and is part of the Navy's permanent collection. Limited edition prints are available from the artist for a reasonable fee and are the same size as the original, at the artist's request. (c)1998, RJ Duffey.
